The most important questions somebody can ask is “What can I do to be saved?” At South Thornton, we believe there is only one way to salvation, and that is through Jesus Christ.
First and foremost, we at the South Thornton church of Christ believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God as spoken in John 20:31 and that he became flesh and dwelled among mankind. We believe that He willingly laid down his life by way of crucifixion in order that our sins can be washed away and we can enjoy the benefits of eternal salvation. We believe that God is the God of the entire creation and that He is a gracious, loving, and merciful God. His desire is that all people can come to the ‘knowledge of the truth.’
We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God as pointed out in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. In order to be faithful and fruitful Christians, we must carry out the principals of the New Testament in our lives. We can only accomplish this by God’s grace and through daily prayer and bible study!
This Bible teaches us that while God freely offers His grace to us, we must show our faith in him by obeying Him.
We must hear and obey God’s word. Luke 8:12, Romans 10:17
We must believe that Jesus is the Christ, the one who will save us from our sins. John 20:31, Mark 16:16
We must repent of our sins. To repent is to not only be upset about our sins, but to actively turn away from that life of sin and strive toward godliness. Matthew 4:17, 2 Peter 3:9
We must publicly confess that belief in Jesus as our savior. Romans 10:9-10, Matthew 10:32
We must come into contact with the cleansing blood of Christ. Scriptures teaches that to do this, we must be fully immersed in water baptism. Galatians 3:27, Romans 6:3-4, 1 Peter 3:21
We can’t stop there! We must continue to live our lives in complete obedience to God. Revelation 2:10, Hebrews 2:1, 3:12
